Milton Berle - An All Star Tribute to Mr Television

Features: DVD

Milton Berle was known as "Mr. Television" for good reason. When his Texaco Star Theater premiered on NBC in 1948, less than half a million Americans owned television sets. At the shows peak, two years later, over two million sets were tuning in each Tuesday night to Uncle Milties wonderful show. Milton Berle brought his timing, humor and stage presence, honed over years as a Broadway and Vaudeville star, right into peoples living rooms. No longer did they need to venture out to nightclubs or live theaters to see the biggest and brightest stars, they could simply turn on this magical box. Stars like Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Sammy Davis Jr., Bing Crosby and more made their first television appearance on the historic Texaco show. Join us for this special tribute to Milton and the show from the legendary Museum of Television & Radio in Beverly Hills, California as other television icons gather to honor this special man.

Includes photo gallery and Milton Berle biography. 95mins. Dolby Digital Stereo

Editor's Note

Milton Berle, also known as "Uncle Miltie," became one of America's first television stars with his own blend of irreverent Vaudeville-influence comic stylings. When his Texaco Star Theatre program premiered on NBC in 1948, less than half a million Americans owned televisions. By 1950, Berle had over two million viewers. The show featured appearances from stars such as Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Elvis Presley and Sammy Davis, Jr. This special tribute, assembled at the Museum of Television & Radio in Los Angeles, features guest such as Steve Allen, Buddy Hackett, Art Linkletter, and more.
